Beat poetry was an artistic literary movement in the 40’s and 50’s that explored politics and rejected economic materialism and the mores of conventional society. Beat Poets, also known as Beats or Beatniks, included Allen Ginsburg, Jack Kerouac, Neal Cassady, William Burroughs, Leonard Cohen, and Bob Kaufman.
